Situated 40 feet beneath the earth's surface, at an undisclosed location somewhere in the continental United States, is the Vault! The Vault is an 8,100 square foot bunker that was forged from solid concrete and steel during the JFK administration and the Cuban Missile Crisis of the 1960's. With construction completed just before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, The Vault was previously used as an AT & T communications shelter and rumored to monitor incoming nuclear missiles during the infamous Cold War. The Vault possesses walls of 3 foot solid concrete with 3,000 pound solid steel doors manufactured by the Moller Safe Company and can withstand a 25 megaton blast from less than 2 1/2 miles away. This shelter is protected by a total of 8 fully functional blast valves which are triggered by blast sensors above ground in the event an explosion is detected.
The Vault's interior is comprised of numerous generators, including a massive two-ton generator affectionately known as "The Time Machine." A working decontamination shower greets each person entering The Vault. All escape hatches are sealed.
Retrofitted for The Vault project, this authentic decommissioned government Fallout Shelter will be outfitted with few luxuries and just enough creature comforts to survive underground isolation for one full year! The Vault will include a locker-style shower, only one bathroom, a basic kitchen and dormitory-style bedrooms with climate control. There is NO live television, NO live radio, NO live internet and NO cell phone coverage. The few minor luxuries include a big screen television to view DVD's, a game room, and an exercise room. A private sound-proofed confessional room will be utilized for cast members. They will be asked to document their wide array of experiences and emotions with a thorough daily video blog that will be posted to each cast member's page.
Everything that you will view inside The Vault is pure reality….unscripted…. uncontrolled... not staged...the ultimate in social interaction and survival. This is not a test! This is reality!
